Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the shelf life expectancy of canned products?

3 years for most products when stored under ambient temperature conditions.

  • Are there any indicators of spoiled canned products?

Do not purchase or use cans that are damaged or bulging. This could mean the contents are contaminated and may not be safe to eat.

  • Is it normal that the inside of the can is black?

Yes, this can happen with both fruit and vegetable products and isn't considered a health hazard and is due to a chemical reaction between the acid in the product and the metal of the can.

  • Is canned food safe to purchase if the tin is dented?

A minor dent to the side of the can will not affect the safety of the product. Do not purchase cans that have a major dent that distorts the can body, or the can end, or the can seam, or are otherwise damaged or bulging. This could mean the contents are contaminated and may not be safe to eat.

  • What do the numbers and letters on the can mean?

The coding on the can end is the production lot code, which allows for traceability back to the raw materials and processing information.

  • Is your salmon wild or farmed?

We are proud to offer only wild pacific salmon.
